Apple decided it would be nice to hyphenate words so that more words could fit on a screen. This sounds like a smart/nice thing to do, but it’s really ridiculous on the implementation, especially for hyphenated headers.

Check out the screen shot:

Example of a hyphenated header
(Really, Apple? Really??!)

There is nothing in the book’s code to indicate that a hyphen is needed or wanted. Apparently, Apple did this on a rather recent version of iBooks.

Quick and easy coding to eliminate hyphens – I added this to the CSS for my h1 headers and seems to have done the trick:
h1{-webkit-hyphens:none}

You can add this coding to any other style. In my case, I really only cared about it for the h1 headers, so that’s the only place I put it.

Hope this helps!
